NSW — Additional Battery/ VPP Support

More Value Through NSW Virtual Power Plant Incentives

NSW battery owners may be eligible for additional incentives when connecting an eligible battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). A VPP allows multiple batteries to work together to support the electricity grid while providing participating customers with financial incentives. From 1 July 2026, batteries up to 50 kWh can be eligible for the NSW VPP incentive, subject to the program requirements. The NSW VPP incentive can also be combined with the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program for eligible systems.

Key Features :

  • NSW Government VPP Incentive – Eligible battery owners can receive an upfront incentive for connecting their battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
  • Works With Federal Battery Support – Eligible batteries can combine the NSW VPP incentive with the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
  • Up to 50 kWh Battery Eligibility – From 1 July 2026, batteries from more than 2 kWh up to 50 kWh can be eligible, with the incentive calculated on usable capacity up to 28 kWh.
  • Earn From Stored Energy – VPP participation can allow excess stored electricity to be sold to the grid, providing ongoing payments.
  • Flexible VPP Options – Different VPP providers offer different payment rates, contract terms and battery access conditions.
  • Support for Grid Stability – Connecting batteries through VPPs helps supply stored energy to the grid during periods of high demand.
